2017 Speaker Bios – Softball

The Pennsylvania Baseball & Softball Coaches Clinic, presented by UPMC Sports Medicine, takes tremendous pride in the quality of speakers that present to our attendees each year. We conduct extensive research and recruit individuals that come highly recommended as clinicians. We strive to to make our roster of speakers a blend of successful veteran coaches along with some young “rising stars” of the coaching profession. As we celebrate our 31st annual convention, we thank all of our loyal attendees and we look forward to providing the coaching community with an excellent clinic in the years to come.

YVETTE GIROUARD - LSU (retired)

Pick whatever measure you want and you will get the same result. Girouard is one of the best in the history of the sport. She ranks as one of the all-time leaders in several categories including: total wins (1285 ), win percentage (.753) and most-consecutive winning seasons (30). She is also one of only three coaches to take two different teams to the Women's College World Series. A multiple winner of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coach of the Year Award, Girouard started the softball program at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During her time there, she advanced to 10 NCAA Tournaments, three Women's College World Series while racking up nearly 800 wins. In her first year with LSU, the squad matched a school record with 59 victories en route to the program's first clean sweep of the SEC's three major league titles (SEC Western Division, SEC Regular Season Championship, SEC Tournament Championship). During her 11 seasons at the university, the Tigers won 40 or more games nine times. Girouard was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002.

JACQUIE JOSEPH – Michigan State University

Since taking over the Spartan program in 1994, Joseph has become the winningest coach in the university's history. Last season she surpassed the 600-win plateau while pushing her career win total over 750. During her tenure at Michigan State she has compiled three 40-win campaigns and nine 30-win seasons including a school-record 47 victories in 1997. That same season, the former Big Ten Coach of the Year helped lead Michigan State to its first-ever NCAA Softball Tournament bid. Prior to her time at MSU, Joseph was head coach at Bowling Green and an assistant coach at Indiana. A veteran on the clinic circuit, Joseph has also authored two books as well as five videos.

LARISSA ANDERSON – Hofstra University

Success is the standard for Anderson at Hofstra. While she is entering just her third year as head coach of the Pride, Anderson spent the previous 13 seasons as the team's assistant or associate head coach. During that time, Hofstra has claimed nearly 600 victories. In just her first year as head coach,  Anderson led Hofstra to the Colonial Athletic Association championship, a NCAA Tournament berth and a spot in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Her and her assistants were named the NFCA Northeast Region's Coaching Staff of the Year marking the eighth time Anderson has earned that honor. Prior to her time with Hofstra, Anderson served as an assistant coach for two seasons at LIU Post and one year at Gannon University.

JOE GUTHRIE – Bucknell University

After completing his third season at Penn State, Guthrie recently accepted a position on the newly-revamped Bison coaching staff. During his time at PSU, the club set single-season records for doubles, home runs, runs, runs batted in and total bases. In addition to his work on the field, Guthrie also served as the program's recruiting coordinator. Prior to his time at Penn State, Guthrie was head coach and assistant athletic director at the Marion Military Institute in Alabama.  A member of the U.S. Army from 2002-05, Guthrie earned numerous accolades in the military and served a one-year combat tour in Iraq. His resume also includes a stint as part-time scout for the Florida Marlins.

CINDY BRISTOW - Softball Excellence

A world-renowned instructor, clinician and author, Bristow is devoted
to every aspect of women's softball. The founder of Softball Excellence,
(www.softballexcellence.com) has helped lead numerous colleges
and universities to success including Arizona State, New Mexico
State and Wichita State. In addition she has worked with several
Olympic teams including the United States, Greece and China. From her days as an
All-American at Cal Poly Pomona, to her time as head coach and Assistant General
Manager of the Georgia Pride, to her time spent as a color analyst with ESPN, Bristow has been involved in virtually every facet of softball throughout her 30-plus year career. A member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Bristow has authored and produced over 20 instructional books and video tapes for the sport of softball. The PA Coaches Clinic joins a long list of clinics both foreign and abroad to feature Bristow as a speaker.

JULIE JONES – University of Akron

Jones has always been a person that stresses quality on and off the field. While winning nearly 300 games during her tenure with the Zips, Jones has mentored 14 All-MAC honorees, five NCAA All-Mideast Region selections, 24 Academic All-MAC student-athletes, eight Academic All-District selections, two Academic All-Americans and the 2014 MAC Pitcher of the Year. Jones' teams have also ranked in the top-20 in team GPA 16 times in her 21-year tenure as an assistant or head coach of a Division I softball program. As a player, Jones was equally successful. A four-year starter, she earned all-region and all-conference marks as a catcher while also grabbing numerous national scholar athlete awards for her work in the classroom.

JASON KUHN – Stonewall Solutions

MATT LISLE – The Hitting Vault

A professional hitting instructor for over 20 years, Lisle has become the internet's most followed hitting coach.  With a philosophy centered around teaching and sharing, Lisle launched The Hitting Vault to help players at all levels of baseball and softball unlock their power.  Lisle currently works with numerous MLB and NCAA players, and has had coaching stints at Menlo College, Santa Clara University, Cal State University - East Bay, and the University of Oregon.  A firm believer that no difference exists between the mechanics of an elite baseball swing and an elite softball swing, Lisle will be presenting to both baseball and softball coaches at the 2017 PA Coaches Clinic.

SHONDA STANTON - Marshall University

Entering her 18th season at the helm at Marshall, Stanton is looking to build on an already impressive resume. Under her guidance, the Herd have captured well over 500 victories, three regular season conference titles while participating in five conference championship games. She is the university's all-time winningest coach which includes 11 seasons of 30 or more wins. Her coaching resume includes stops at Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI)  as well as two years in the professional ranks with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League. In her playing days, Stanton was a four-year starter and a three-year captain at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition, she played Women's ASA Fastpitch Summerball for the Chet Smith Lady All-Stars in Columbus, Ohio and the Buckeye Slammers in Akron, Ohio.
