SALON B/C: GAIN AN EDGE WITH THE GRIFFINS

A Q&A Session Including "Top 10 Do's and Don'ts for Building a Championship Program"

The Seton Hill Griffins are an NCAA division II baseball team that competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Marc Marizzaldi has been the head coach of the Griffins since their inception in 2004. He has single-handedly built the program from the ground up, transitioning it from a little-known NAIA team to a nationally ranked NCAA Division II powerhouse. Seton Hill was the only DII squad in the country to win 40 games each season from 2011 to 2016. With 14 consecutive winning seasons and nine straight appearances in the NCAA Regionals, Marizzaldi and his staff are eager to answer all of your questions and help you “Gain an Edge” in 2019.

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm:

GRAND BALLROOM FOYER: MEET, GREET & EAT - The PA Coaches Clinic has built a great reputation for having a friendly, welcoming and entertaining event while still providing a nationally recognized roster of speakers and exhibitors. To further enhance your experience, we are excited to introduce "MEET, GREET & EAT." Enjoy a complementary ballpark style buffet while you relax, socialize and expand your network within the baseball coaching community. In addtion to the food, long-time sponsor Miller Lite will provide complimentary beverages to ensure no one leaves thirsty.

8:00 pm - 10:00 pm:

SALON B/C: TUNE UP WITH GAYLORD PERRY - Perry pitched 22 seasons in the major leagues with the Giants, Indians, Rangers, Padres, Yankees, Mariners, Braves and Royals. The five-time All Star compiled 314 wins with 3,534 strikeouts and an impressive 33 shutouts. His impressive career statistics and performance earned him an induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. His number 36 was retired by the Giants in 2005. He is one of only 24 pitchers to win 300 games (17th all-time) and one of only 16 pitchers to record at least 3000 strikeouts (8th all time.) He was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in each league: 1972 with the Indians and 1978 with the Padres. He won 15 or more games for 13 consecutive seasons from 1966-78. Since 1900, only Greg Maddux (17) had a longer streak. He is also distinguished, along with his brother Jim, for being part of the second-winningest brother combination in baseball history - second only to the knuckle-balling Niekro brothers, Phil and Joe. Perry had a reputation throughout his career for doctoring baseballs. He used his reputation to psyche out the hitters as well. As he looked at his catcher for the pitch selection, Perry would touch various parts of his head, such as his eyebrows and his cap. Despite his notoriety for doctoring baseballs and perhaps even more so for making batters think he was throwing them, he was not ejected for the illegal practice until August 23, 1982, in his 21st season in the majors. Following the Q&A session, Perry will be available for photos & autographs.
